North, South, East or West: Which Farmhouse Area Near Hyderabad Suits You?

The farmhouse at Vedika Resort, Moinabad

Moinabad, Shamirpet, Ghatkesar or Shamshabad? A compass-by-compass guide to picking the right farmhouse area for your group.

The best farmhouse area near Hyderabad is usually the one on your side of the city. West is best for Gachibowli and the IT corridor, north for Secunderabad and Kompally, east for Uppal and LB Nagar, and south for the old city and anyone heading to the airport. Choose the direction first, then the farmhouse, and you will spend more of your day by the pool and less of it on the road.

That is the short answer. The longer one depends on your group, the occasion and how much time you have. This guide breaks Hyderabad's farmhouse belt down by compass direction and gives you a simple way to decide.

Answer three questions first

  1. Where is everyone starting from? If most of the group lives in one part of the city, pick the farmhouse area on that side. If you are split, find the area that keeps every drive reasonable, often with the ORR's help.
  2. Day or night? For a few hours, stay close. For an overnight stay, a longer drive is easier to justify.
  3. What matters most? Maximum choice, peace and quiet, scenery, or convenience? Each direction is strong in a different way.

West: the biggest choice

Areas: Moinabad, Shankarpally, Chevella.

The west is Hyderabad's best-known farmhouse belt. Moinabad, past the ORR on the Chevella road in Ranga Reddy district, has the largest choice of farmhouses around the city, with mango orchards and Chilkur Balaji temple and Himayat Sagar nearby. It is about 30–45 minutes from Gachibowli, Kokapet and the Financial District. Shankarpally, past Kokapet and Mokila, is quieter at around 40–50 minutes. Chevella, beyond Moinabad on the Vikarabad road, is 50–60 minutes away and best for overnight stays.

Choose west if: you live in west Hyderabad, need a specific type of property, or want to pair the stay with a drive to Vikarabad. Start with Moinabad farmhouses.

North: lakes and highways

Areas: Shamirpet, Medchal, plus Patancheru to the north-west.

Shamirpet sits on the Karimnagar highway near Shamirpet lake and Genome Valley, 30–35 km out and about 30–45 minutes from Secunderabad or Kompally. Jawahar Deer Park is also at Shamirpet. Medchal is on NH 44, the Nagpur highway, about 30 km away. Patancheru, on NH 65 at the ORR, is the closest option for Miyapur, BHEL and Kukatpally.

Choose north if: you live in Secunderabad, Alwal, Kompally, Kukatpally or Miyapur. See Shamirpet farmhouses.

East: close and easy

Areas: Keesara, Ghatkesar, Pedda Amberpet.

Keesara, on the north-east edge, has the Keesaragutta temple and rocky countryside, about 30–45 minutes from Secunderabad, ECIL and Uppal. Ghatkesar is east on the Warangal highway just outside the ORR, 30–45 minutes from Uppal and Habsiguda. Pedda Amberpet, where the Vijayawada highway meets the ORR, is one of the closest farmhouse areas to the city.

Choose east if: you live in Uppal, ECIL, Nagole, Habsiguda or LB Nagar, or need a quick half-day outing. Try Ghatkesar farmhouses.

South: airport, lake and long highways

Areas: Shamshabad, Maheshwaram, Ibrahimpatnam, Kadthal.

Shamshabad surrounds RGI Airport and the ORR, 25–30 km from central Hyderabad and 30–40 minutes from Gachibowli. Maheshwaram is off the Srisailam highway near Tukkuguda, 30–35 km out and generally quiet. Ibrahimpatnam lies south-east on the Nagarjuna Sagar road near Ibrahimpatnam lake, 40–50 minutes from LB Nagar. Kadthal, far south on the Srisailam highway at 55–65 km, is best for overnight stays.

Choose south if: you live in the old city or south Hyderabad, have people flying in or out, or want a quieter overnight. Browse Shamshabad farmhouses.

Common mistakes when choosing an area

  • Defaulting to Moinabad from the wrong side of town. It is excellent, but from Uppal or ECIL a closer area may give you an extra two hours at the farmhouse.
  • Picking a far area for a short visit. A 60-minute drive each way eats into a four-hour booking. Save the distant areas for overnights.
  • Ignoring the return trip. Sunday-evening traffic into the city can be heavy. Plan your check-out time, and make sure the driver is rested and sober.
  • Assuming every farmhouse in an area is the same. Amenities, house rules and prices vary by farmhouse, not by area. Always read the individual listing.

Season can tip the balance

In the hot months from March to June, prioritise a private pool and AC rooms over scenery; a nearby farmhouse with good shade can beat a distant one. During the monsoon, roughly June to September, the countryside in every direction turns green, though rural approach roads can be muddy, so a closer area on better roads can be the safer choice. From November to February, the pleasant weather makes the longer drives to Chevella or Kadthal much more rewarding.

Still undecided?

If your group is split across the city, look at areas reachable via the ORR, which can make a longer distance faster than a shorter route through traffic. Our complete guide to booking a farmhouse in Hyderabad covers the rest of the process, from guest counts to house rules.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best farmhouse area near Hyderabad?

There is no single best area. Moinabad has the most choice, but the best area for you is usually the one closest to where your group lives.

Which farmhouse areas are closest to Hyderabad city?

Pedda Amberpet, where the Vijayawada highway meets the ORR, is one of the closest. Shamshabad, at 25–30 km, and Ghatkesar, Keesara and Medchal, at about 30 km, are also fairly close.

Where should I book a farmhouse for an overnight stay?

Areas a little further out, such as Chevella or Kadthal, are well suited to overnight stays, though farmhouses in most areas offer night stays.

Is north or west Hyderabad better for a farmhouse?

West, mainly Moinabad, offers more choice; north, such as Shamirpet and Medchal, is more convenient for Secunderabad and Kompally residents.
