Mehdipatnam and Attapur sit at the start of the road to Moinabad, Hyderabad's biggest farmhouse belt. Here is how to make the most of that head start.

If you live in Mehdipatnam, Attapur, Tolichowki, Langar Houz or Rajendranagar, you have one of the easiest routes to Hyderabad's biggest farmhouse belt. Moinabad lies west, along the Chevella road past Himayat Sagar and the ORR. Shamshabad is south, around the airport, and Chevella is beyond Moinabad on the same road. Most of your farmhouse options lie in one direction, without crossing the city.

Here is how to choose between them, and how to plan a day that works for the big, multi-generation groups that often book from this part of Hyderabad.

Why Moinabad is the obvious first choice

Moinabad has more farmhouses than any other area near Hyderabad, set among mango orchards in Ranga Reddy district. From Mehdipatnam and Attapur, the drive is straightforward: head out towards Himayat Sagar and keep going. Choice matters in practice because:

  • Your date is more likely to be available, even at short notice
  • You can filter for exactly what your group needs: number of bedrooms, a kids' pool, box cricket or a large lawn
  • You can compare several farmhouses with similar features and pick the best value on the live price

Chilkur Balaji temple is also nearby, so a family can visit in the morning and spend the rest of the day at the farmhouse. Our things to do near Moinabad post has more ideas.

Planning for large family groups

Bookings from this side of the city are often for family occasions, such as a cousin's engagement get-together, an aunt's sixtieth or a cricket match between in-laws. These events have a lot of moving parts. Here is a sensible order to plan them in:

  1. Fix the guest count first. Every farmhouse has a capacity. A firm number decides which listings you can consider. Groups of thirty or more should start with farmhouses for large groups.
  2. Decide on food early. For a big family, a caterer or a large biryani order is usually easier than cooking. Check whether the farmhouse allows outside caterers and whether there's a kitchen or serving area you can use.
  3. Plan the seating. Ask how many chairs and tables the farmhouse provides. You may need to hire more, and the farmhouse may have rules about outside vendors.
  4. Confirm decorations. Flower decor, balloons or a backdrop for photos need the host's permission, and some places restrict tape, nails or confetti.
  5. Share a travel plan. Older relatives might need a car with a driver. Younger cousins can carpool from a single meeting point near Mehdipatnam.

Timing the drive out

The first stretch out of Mehdipatnam and through Langar Houz can be slow at busy times. On weekends, leaving by mid-morning is generally comfortable. A few more tips:

  • From Attapur, the ORR can be a quicker way to reach Moinabad farmhouses on the far side, depending on where exactly the farmhouse is.
  • For Shamshabad, the PVNR Expressway towards the airport is usually the easiest way south.
  • On the way back, Sunday evening traffic into the city builds up. Leaving a little before sunset, or after dinner, often avoids the worst of it.
  • Save the caretaker's number and the map pin before you leave. Village turn-offs aren't always signposted.

Making the day comfortable for elders

Multi-generation groups need a slightly different plan from a group of friends. If grandparents are coming, ask before booking about:

  • Ground-floor rooms with attached bathrooms, so nobody has to climb stairs
  • Shaded seating near the pool, so they can watch the children without sitting in the sun
  • Power backup for AC rooms for the afternoon rest, especially in the hot months from March to June
  • Even paths from the parking area to the main house

Our guide to a farmhouse stay with elderly parents has a fuller checklist.

House rules and responsible celebrations

Music timings, alcohol, pets, outside food and the number of guests are set by each farmhouse, not by us, and they differ from place to place. Read the listing and confirm anything important on WhatsApp. If alcohol is part of an event, local rules may require permissions, and the host's rules always apply. Make sure everyone who drives home is sober. Cancellation terms also vary; each farmhouse shows its policy on its page.

Ideas for the day itself

Once the logistics are sorted, a few simple ideas help a family day go well:

  • A cousins' cricket match. Many farmhouses have a box cricket pitch. Split teams by family branch for some friendly rivalry.
  • An elders' corner. Set up chairs in the shade with tea and snacks, close enough to watch the children in the pool.
  • Mango season visits. In early summer, Moinabad's orchards are a reminder of why the area is famous. Ask the caretaker whether the farmhouse has its own trees, but don't pick fruit without permission.
  • A group photo before lunch. Everyone is fresh, dressed and in one place. After lunch, people scatter.
  • A short sunset walk around the property before the drive home, as long as you stay within the farmhouse grounds.

Keep the schedule loose. The best family days have time for nothing in particular, like a nap under a tree or a long conversation over tea.
