Farmhouses Near Secunderabad: Where to Go Without Crossing the City
· 5 min read· by Farmhouses Hyderabad Team

Skip the cross-city drive to Moinabad. Shamirpet, Medchal, Keesara and Ghatkesar are all close to Secunderabad.
For families in Secunderabad, the biggest mistake when booking a farmhouse is assuming you have to go to Moinabad. That means crossing the whole city, through Begumpet, Ameerpet or Mehdipatnam, and often spending more time in traffic than in the pool. There is a better answer: the north and north-east of Hyderabad have their own farmhouse areas, Shamirpet, Medchal, Keesara and Ghatkesar, and most are around 30–45 minutes from Secunderabad.
This guide maps the right farmhouse area to your part of Secunderabad, so you head out of the city rather than through it.
The four farmhouse areas on Secunderabad's side
| Area | Road | Approx. distance | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shamirpet | Karimnagar highway, north | 30–35 km | Shamirpet lake, near Genome Valley |
| Medchal | NH 44, the Nagpur highway, north | About 30 km | Highway access, open land |
| Keesara | North-east | About 30 km | Keesaragutta temple, rocky countryside |
| Ghatkesar | Warangal highway, east | About 30 km | Just outside the ORR |
All four are typically 30–45 minutes from Secunderabad, depending on exactly where you start and the traffic on the day.

Match the area to your neighbourhood
Alwal, Bowenpally, Trimulgherry and Kompally
You are already on the northern side, so Shamirpet and Medchal are the obvious picks. Shamirpet is on the Karimnagar highway, Medchal on NH 44. Both are a straight drive north. If you live closer to Kompally, our page on farmhouses near Kompally narrows the list further.
Sainikpuri, AS Rao Nagar, ECIL and Kapra
Head north-east to Keesara. It is one of the most convenient farmhouse areas for this part of the city, and the drive avoids the city centre entirely. Read more in our Keesara farmhouse guide.
Tarnaka, Habsiguda, Uppal and Nacharam
Go east to Ghatkesar on the Warangal highway, just outside the ORR. It is about 30–45 minutes from Uppal and Habsiguda. Keesara is a good second option.
Marredpally, Paradise and central Secunderabad
You have the most flexibility. Shamirpet and Medchal to the north, Keesara to the north-east. Choose based on the farmhouse you like rather than the area, since all are reasonably close.
What each area does best
- Shamirpet suits families who want a scenic outing. The lake and Jawahar Deer Park are in the area, so you can combine a farmhouse day with a short visit. See farmhouses in Shamirpet.
- Medchal is about practicality: the NH 44 makes the drive simple, and it works well for groups coming from Kukatpally and Kompally as well as Secunderabad. Browse the Medchal farmhouses to compare.
- Keesara is calmer and suits multi-generation families, especially if elders want to visit the temple.
- Ghatkesar is close and easy, a good fit for a quick day outing or a friends' evening.
Day use or night stay?
Because these areas are close, a day booking is very realistic from Secunderabad. You can leave after breakfast, spend the day at the pool and lawns, and be home for dinner. That makes northern farmhouses a strong option for:
- Sunday family outings with young children.
- Kids' birthday parties, where parents prefer a short drive.
- Office day outings for teams based in Secunderabad, Begumpet or Uppal.
An overnight stay is still worthwhile when you want a relaxed evening, a barbecue and a slow morning. Check-in and check-out times vary by farmhouse, so confirm them before planning your day.
A note for groups coming from both sides of the city
Many friend groups and families are split, some in Secunderabad, some in Gachibowli or Kondapur. In that case, neither Keesara nor Moinabad is fair to everyone. A few ideas:
- Map where each car starts and look for the area that keeps every drive reasonable.
- Consider Medchal or Patancheru, which can work for people coming from Kukatpally and the north-west as well as Secunderabad.
- Use the ORR. It often makes a longer-distance drive faster than a shorter route through the city.
Picking a season on the north side
The northern and eastern farmhouse areas follow the same Telangana calendar as the rest of the city, but a few points are worth knowing:
- November to February: The most pleasant months. Evenings get cool enough that a bonfire, where the host allows one, feels just right. This is also when weekends book up fastest, so plan ahead for long weekends and festival dates.
- March to June: Hot and dry, especially in the rocky Keesara countryside. Prioritise a farmhouse with a private pool, AC bedrooms and shaded seating, and plan pool time for the morning and late afternoon.
- Roughly June to September: The monsoon greens up the fields around Shamirpet and Medchal. Approach roads can turn muddy, so drive slowly, and pack indoor games in case of a rainy afternoon.
Whatever the season, weekend and holiday rates are usually higher than weekday rates. If your family has flexibility, a weekday outing during school holidays can be both easier to book and easier on the budget. The live price is always on each farmhouse page.
Before you book
Whichever area you choose, the farmhouse is yours alone for the booking, with its pool, lawns and rooms. Still, each property has its own rules on guest numbers, music timings, outside food, alcohol, decorations, pets and deposits. These vary by farmhouse, so check the listing and confirm anything unclear on WhatsApp. Cancellation terms are also set by each farmhouse and shown on its page.
A small practical tip: stock up on water, ice and snacks before you leave the city limits. Shops become scarce once you are on the farm roads.
