East and north-east Hyderabad has its own set of nearby farmhouse belts. Here is how Keesara, Ghatkesar, Shamirpet and Pedda Amberpet compare from Uppal and ECIL.

From Uppal, ECIL, Kapra, AS Rao Nagar or Nacharam, you have four farmhouse belts within easy reach. Keesara and Ghatkesar are both about 30–45 minutes away. Shamirpet is to the north, and Pedda Amberpet is just south-east, where the Vijayawada highway meets the ORR. You don't need to cross to Moinabad on the west side for a good farmhouse day.

Here is how the four compare and how to choose for your group.

The four eastern belts at a glance

KeesaraRocky countryside, near the Keesaragutta templeFamilies who like a temple visit, and quiet day stays
GhatkesarJust outside the ORR on the Warangal highwayQuick escapes, friends' parties and short notice bookings
ShamirpetLake country on the Karimnagar highwayOvernight stays and groups who want a longer drive

From ECIL: go north-east to Keesara

ECIL, Kushaiguda and Sainikpuri sit on the north-east edge of the city, and Keesara is the natural choice from there. The countryside is rocky and open, quite different from the orchard landscape of the west. It also suits a family day: some groups stop at Keesaragutta temple in the morning and spend the rest of the day at the farmhouse.

For older relatives, a temple visit followed by a quiet lunch by the pool is a gentle, enjoyable plan. Our Keesara farmhouse guide covers the area in more depth.

From Uppal: Ghatkesar or Pedda Amberpet

Uppal is close to the Warangal highway, so Ghatkesar is a straightforward drive. It is especially good when:

  • You're booking at short notice and want to keep travel time down
  • The group is mostly from Uppal, Habsiguda, Tarnaka and Ramanthapur
  • You want a day booking and to be home for dinner

Pedda Amberpet is the other close option. Where the Vijayawada highway meets the ORR, it suits groups that include friends from LB Nagar or Hayathnagar, and it is one of the shortest drives from the city.

When to drive north to Shamirpet

Shamirpet takes a little longer from Uppal and ECIL, but it offers lake country and a quieter feel. Jawahar Deer Park is also there. It is worth the drive when:

  • You're staying overnight, so the drive time matters less
  • Children would enjoy the deer park on the way back
  • The nearer belts are fully booked for a festival weekend

Planning a colony or community trip from the east

Groups from east Hyderabad are often neighbours: colony associations, apartment groups and extended families living near one another. For a trip like that:

  1. Fix the headcount early. Farmhouses have a capacity limit, and extra guests may cost more or not be allowed.
  2. Choose by lawn space, not just the pool. With many families, not everyone will swim. A big lawn for games and seating keeps the day running smoothly. Many farmhouses also have box cricket, which is popular with this kind of group.
  3. Arrange the food centrally. One caterer or a large biryani order is easier than potluck boxes from thirty kitchens. Check whether the farmhouse allows outside caterers.
  4. Share costs openly. A shared sheet showing the farmhouse rent, food and transport avoids awkward conversations later.

Small practical details

  • Approach roads: Some farmhouses in Keesara and Ghatkesar are a short distance off the main road. Ask for a landmark and the last turn.
  • Summer heat: Eastern Telangana gets very hot from March to June. Book a place with shade and plan pool time for the morning and late afternoon.
  • House rules: Music timings, decorations, outside food and pets vary by farmhouse. Read the listing and ask on WhatsApp if you're not sure.
  • Cancellation: Each farmhouse has its own policy, shown on its page. Read it before you pay.

Picking the right day of the week

East Hyderabad groups often have flexible schedules: retired parents, homemakers, shift workers and students. If your group can manage a weekday, it is worth considering. Weekday rates are usually lower than weekend rates, more farmhouses are free, and the drive out along the highways is generally calmer.

Weekends still make sense for working groups and for occasions that fall on a Saturday or Sunday. In that case, book early. Popular farmhouses in Ghatkesar and Keesara can fill up for long weekends and festival dates. Our post on booking early for festivals explains why.

Ideas for a day out from the east

  • A temple-and-pool day: Keesaragutta in the morning, then a farmhouse in Keesara for lunch and a swim.
  • A lake-country overnight: Shamirpet for an evening bonfire (if allowed), a quiet night and Jawahar Deer Park on the way back.
  • A quick friends' afternoon: Ghatkesar from Uppal, with box cricket in the evening and back by dinner.
  • A birthday on the edge of town: Pedda Amberpet keeps the drive short for older guests and lets you decorate the lawn without travelling far.
  • A Sankranti kite afternoon: Open countryside skies in the east are good for kites, and the farmhouse lawn gives you space to fly them.

Whatever you choose, confirm the farmhouse rules for decorations, bonfires and music before the day. They vary from place to place.

Frequently asked questions

Which farmhouse area is closest to ECIL?

Keesara is usually the most convenient farmhouse belt from ECIL and Kushaiguda, around 30–45 minutes depending on traffic.

Is Ghatkesar good for a short farmhouse trip from Uppal?

Yes. Ghatkesar sits just outside the ORR on the Warangal highway, so it is a quick drive from Uppal and Habsiguda and works well for day bookings.

Can we visit Keesaragutta temple on a farmhouse day?

Many families combine a morning temple visit with a farmhouse stay in Keesara. Plan the temple visit first, before the afternoon heat.

Are there farmhouses suitable for colony group picnics in east Hyderabad?
