Vikarabad and Ananthagiri Hills: Planning a Farmhouse Weekend Out West
· 5 min read· by Farmhouses Hyderabad Team

Base yourself at a Chevella farmhouse, drive to the Ananthagiri hills at dawn, and be back by the pool for brunch. A simple two-day western weekend.
If a farmhouse day by the pool feels too short and a full road trip feels like too much, a Vikarabad weekend sits neatly in between. Book a farmhouse out west in Chevella, about 45–50 km from the city and 50–60 minutes from Gachibowli, then use it as your base for a drive to Vikarabad and the forested Ananthagiri hills. You get a private pool and lawn in the evening, and hill air in the morning.
Here is a practical two-day plan, plus what to know about choosing your base, the seasons and the drive.
Why base yourself at a farmhouse in Chevella
Chevella lies west of Hyderabad beyond Moinabad, on the road towards Vikarabad. That makes it the natural halfway point: far enough out that the countryside opens up, close enough to the hills that a morning visit does not mean a pre-dawn start.
- Shorter hill drive. You start your Ananthagiri morning already well outside the city.
- Space for the group. Farmhouses here often have open lawns and room to spread out.
- A proper evening. After the hills, you come back to a private pool, a BBQ and your own space instead of a hotel lobby.
If Chevella is fully booked for your date, Moinabad farmhouses are a little closer to the city on the same road, and Shankarpally farmhouses are another option on the west side.

The two-day plan
Day 1: Drive out and settle in
- Late morning: Leave Hyderabad. If your group is coming from the west, the drive to Chevella takes roughly an hour.
- Optional stop: Chilkur Balaji temple, near Moinabad, sits on the way for families who like a temple visit.
- Afternoon: Check in, settle into the rooms, and have a long lunch.
- Evening: Pool time as the heat fades, then cricket or lawn games.
- Night: BBQ dinner, music within the farmhouse's allowed timings, and an early night. Tomorrow starts early.
Day 2: Ananthagiri hills and back
- Early morning: Drive further west to Vikarabad and up into the Ananthagiri hills while it is cool and quiet.
- Morning: Walk the forest trails and enjoy the viewpoints. Families often also visit the Ananthagiri temple in the hills.
- Late morning: Head back to the farmhouse for brunch and a final swim, if your check-out time allows.
- Afternoon: Check out and drive home, ideally before the evening rush into the city.
If your group has a third day, see our two-night farmhouse weekend plan for a more relaxed version.
Choosing the right farmhouse for a hill weekend
This trip involves an overnight stay and an early start, so the farmhouse needs to work as a base, not just a party venue. Look for:
| Feature | Why it matters on this trip |
|---|---|
| Enough AC bedrooms | Everyone needs proper sleep before the early drive |
| Flexible check-out | Lets you return from the hills for a last swim |
| Kitchen | Early tea and a packed breakfast before you leave |
| Caretaker on site | Local directions and help if something is needed |
| Parking and power backup | Comfort for a group with more than one car |
Many farmhouses have these, along with a private pool, lawns and a BBQ area, but they vary, so confirm on the listing. Our night stay farmhouses page is a good shortlist.
Who this weekend suits
This plan works best for groups who enjoy a bit of movement: friends who like an early walk, families with children old enough to manage a forest trail, and couples who want a quiet break with some scenery. It is less suited to a big party crowd that wants a late night, because the hill drive rewards an early start. If your group is mixed, split it: the early risers head to the hills while the rest sleep in and enjoy the pool.
Best season for Vikarabad and Ananthagiri
- Monsoon (roughly June to September): The hills are at their greenest and the drive is beautiful. Trails can be slippery and roads can be wet, so wear proper footwear and drive slowly.
- Winter (November to February): Cool mornings and clear days make this the most comfortable time for walking in the hills, and evenings at the farmhouse are pleasant for a bonfire where it is allowed.
- Summer (March to June): It is hot across Telangana. If you go, do the hills at first light and spend the rest of the day by the pool.
Packing for hills plus farmhouse
This weekend needs a slightly different bag from a regular pool day:
- Walking shoes with good grip for the trails, plus slippers for the pool
- A light jacket for winter mornings or a rain layer in the monsoon
- Mosquito repellent, a torch and basic medicines
- Reusable water bottles and a bag for carrying litter back
- Swimwear and an extra change of clothes
Driving and safety notes
The road west from the city becomes quieter after Moinabad, and the hill roads around Ananthagiri have curves that need care. Drive in daylight where you can, especially on the hill stretch, and keep phones charged since signal may be patchy in places. If your group drinks at the farmhouse in the evening, keep it responsible, follow the host's rules, and make sure whoever drives to the hills the next morning is well rested and sober.
As always, house rules on music timings, outside food, decorations, pets and alcohol vary by farmhouse. Read them on the listing and confirm anything unclear on WhatsApp. Each farmhouse also sets its own cancellation policy, shown on its page, which matters if a heavy monsoon forecast changes your plans.
