The Farmhouse Packing List: What to Bring for a Day or Night Stay
· 5 min read· by Farmhouses Hyderabad Team
Swimwear, chargers, a first-aid pouch and the one thing everybody forgets. A room-by-room packing list for a farmhouse day trip or overnight stay near Hyderabad.
The short answer: pack for a private house, not a hotel. A farmhouse near Hyderabad gives your group the whole property, pool, lawns and kitchen included, but there is no room service and often no shop within walking distance. Whatever you forget, you either do without or someone drives back to the highway for it.
This list is organised by where you will actually use each item, so you can split it across the group chat and tick things off the night before.
First, find out what the farmhouse already has
Packing lists go wrong when people assume. Before you start, open the farmhouse page and read the amenities and house rules, then ask the host on WhatsApp about anything unclear. Things worth confirming:
- Are towels and bed linen provided for night stays, and how many sets?
- Is the kitchen usable, and does it have a stove, gas, utensils, a fridge?
- Is there a music system, or should you bring a speaker?
- Is there power backup, and what does it cover (lights only, or AC and pool pump too)?
- Can you bring outside food, and is cooking allowed or only reheating?
Every farmhouse is different, so the same question can have a different answer at two properties a kilometre apart. If you are still choosing, our list of questions to ask before booking covers the rest.

The pool bag
Many farmhouses have a private pool, and it is usually the reason people book. Keep pool things in one bag so nobody hunts through suitcases with wet hands.
- Proper swimwear for everyone (many hosts ask for swimwear, not jeans or regular cotton clothes, in the pool)
- Two towels per swimmer if towels are not provided, one for drying and one to sit on
- Sunscreen, a cap and sunglasses; afternoon sun on a poolside deck is strong for most of the year
- Flip-flops or pool slippers; wet tiles are slippery
- Arm bands or a float for small children, plus swim nappies for toddlers
- A zip-lock pouch for phones and car keys
If the pool is the main event, read our guide to pool safety for kids at a farmhouse before you go.
Day trip vs night stay: what changes
A day booking and an overnight booking need surprisingly different bags. Use this table to trim or extend your list.
| Item | Day use | Night stay |
|---|---|---|
| Change of clothes | One set after swimming | Night wear plus next-day outfit |
| Toiletries | Soap, shampoo, comb | Full kit: toothbrush, paste, face wash, moisturiser |
| Mosquito repellent | Useful near dusk | Essential; bring cream and a plug-in |
| Light jacket or shawl | Rarely needed | Useful from November to February |
| Torch | Optional | Yes, for lawns and parking at night |
| Breakfast supplies | No | Yes, unless the host arranges it |
| Medicines | Basic pouch | Basic pouch plus any regular prescriptions |

Kitchen and food basics
Even if you are ordering biryani or carrying home-cooked dabbas, a small kitchen kit saves a lot of trouble:
- Drinking water cans or a few large bottles; do not count on buying them nearby
- Disposable or reusable plates, cups and spoons (check what the kitchen has first)
- A sharp knife, a cutting board and a bottle opener
- Salt, sugar, tea, coffee, milk and a few snacks for the drive
- Aluminium foil, tissue rolls and two or three large garbage bags
- A cooler box with ice if you are carrying cold drinks or marinated meat for a BBQ
Outside food and cooking rules vary by farmhouse, so confirm before you load the car.
Games, music and the fun stuff
Lawns, a pool and a free afternoon mean games happen whether you plan them or not. Bring a few things in case the property has fewer extras than you hoped:
- A tennis ball and bat if the farmhouse has a box cricket area or open lawn
- A football, a frisbee or a badminton set
- Playing cards, Uno, or a board game for the hours after dark
- A Bluetooth speaker, kept at a volume that respects the host's music timings
- Extension board and phone chargers; there are never enough sockets near the lawn

Things people forget (and regret)
- Government ID. Many hosts ask to see ID for the person who booked, sometimes for every adult.
- Booking confirmation. Keep the confirmation and the host's number handy, offline if possible, since mobile signal can be patchy outside the ORR.
- Cash in small notes. Useful for a caretaker tip, a tea stall on the way or a quick grocery top-up.
- A first-aid pouch. Band-aids, antiseptic, paracetamol, ORS, antacid and anything for allergies.
- Slippers for indoors. Lawn grass and wet feet get tracked into bedrooms quickly.
- A bag for wet clothes. Saves the car seats on the way home.
- Kids' comfort items. A favourite blanket or toy helps little ones sleep in a new place.
A quick split for groups
For a friends' getaway or a family group of fifteen, divide the list instead of having one person carry everything. A simple split: one car brings water and the cooler, one brings games and the speaker, one brings the first-aid pouch and kitchen kit, and every person packs their own clothes, towel and toiletries. Post the split in the group chat the evening before so nothing is doubled or dropped.
Packed? Now pick the place
Once the bags are sorted, the only thing left is the farmhouse. You can browse farmhouses around Hyderabad with live availability and price, read each property's amenities and rules, and either book online or send a free booking request and get confirmed on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions
Do farmhouses near Hyderabad provide towels and bed linen?
It depends on the farmhouse. Many provide bed linen for night stays, but towels for the pool are often not included, so check the farmhouse page or ask the host on WhatsApp before you pack.
What should I wear in a farmhouse swimming pool?
Proper swimwear is the safest choice, as many hosts do not allow regular cotton clothes or jeans in the pool. The exact rule is set by each farmhouse.
Should I carry drinking water to a farmhouse?
Yes, carry enough for the whole group. Many farmhouses are outside the ORR where shops can be a drive away, and running out mid-afternoon is a common problem.
Do I need ID to check in at a farmhouse?
Many hosts ask for a government ID from the person who booked, and some ask for every adult. Carry it to avoid delays at check-in.
