Farmhouses Along the ORR: Using the Outer Ring Road to Pick Your Area
· 5 min read· by Farmhouses Hyderabad Team

The Outer Ring Road connects almost every farmhouse belt around Hyderabad. Learn to read it like a map and choosing an area gets much easier.
Almost every popular farmhouse area near Hyderabad sits just inside or just outside the Outer Ring Road. Once you see the ORR as a ring with highways running out of it like spokes, choosing where to book gets much simpler: you find the spoke nearest your group, ride the ring to it, and head out a short way.
This guide shows you how to use that ring-and-spoke picture to shortlist farmhouse areas, plan the drive for a mixed group, and avoid the classic mistake of crossing the whole city on a Saturday morning.
The ring and the spokes
The ORR loops around Hyderabad at a distance from the centre. Major highways cross it and keep going into the countryside, and the farmhouse belts have grown along those highways. Here is how the main spokes line up:
| Direction | Highway or road | Farmhouse areas |
|---|---|---|
| West | Chevella road | Moinabad, then Chevella further out |
| West (via Kokapet) | Roads past Mokila | Shankarpally |
| North-west | NH 65, Mumbai highway | Patancheru, then Sangareddy |
| North | NH 44, Nagpur highway | Medchal |
| North | Karimnagar highway | Shamirpet |
| North-east | Roads towards Keesaragutta | Keesara |
| East | Warangal highway | Ghatkesar |
| East | NH 65, Vijayawada highway | Pedda Amberpet |
| South-east | Nagarjuna Sagar road | Ibrahimpatnam |
| South | Srisailam highway | Maheshwaram, then Kadthal |
| South | Around RGI Airport | Shamshabad |
Every one of these areas has a hub page with live farmhouses, prices and availability. The full set is on the all farmhouses page.
Step 1: find your group's centre of gravity
Before you look at a single pool photo, list where each car will start from. Then ask which part of the ring most of those starting points sit closest to.
- A group mostly in Gachibowli, Kokapet and the Financial District sits near the western ring, which puts Moinabad and Shankarpally within easy reach.
- A group in Kompally, Alwal and Secunderabad sits near the northern ring, closest to Medchal and Shamirpet.
- A group in Uppal, LB Nagar and Hayathnagar sits near the eastern ring, closest to Ghatkesar and Pedda Amberpet.
- A group in the old city, Attapur or near the airport road sits closest to the southern ring and Shamshabad.
Often the answer is obvious. When it is not, the ring helps with the next step.
Step 2: when your group is spread across the city
Mixed groups are where the ORR earns its keep. Instead of everyone driving through the centre, each car joins the ring at its nearest point and travels around it.
Pick a spoke between the clusters
If half your friends live in the west and half in the north, a north-western area like Patancheru can be a fair middle ground. If the split is east and south, Ibrahimpatnam or Maheshwaram may balance the drive.
Accept that someone drives a little more
Perfect fairness is rare. A good rule is that nobody should have to cross the city centre. The ring makes that possible for most combinations.
Choose the farmhouse, then the meeting time
Once you know the area, check the farmhouse's check-in time and work backwards. Cars coming from the far side of the ring should leave first.
Inside the ring or outside it?
Some farmhouse areas sit right at the ORR; others are a good way beyond it. The distance past the ring changes the kind of trip that makes sense.
- At or near the ring (for example Patancheru, Pedda Amberpet, parts of Shamshabad): best for half-day visits, evening birthdays and quick plans.
- A short way past the ring (for example Moinabad, Ghatkesar, Medchal, Shamirpet): the classic day-trip or one-night zone.
- Well beyond the ring (for example Chevella, Kadthal, Sangareddy): best for overnight stays where the drive is part of the getaway.
Our post comparing north, south, east and west farmhouse areas goes into the character of each direction if you want more than just distance.
Practical ORR driving tips for farmhouse trips
- Know your exit before you join. Look at the farmhouse's location pin and note which highway it sits off. Missing an exit on the ring can add a long loop.
- Toll payments. Make sure each car's FASTag is working before you leave.
- Leave early on weekends. The ring itself usually flows well, but the roads leading to it, and the highways leaving it, can be slow on Saturday mornings.
- Fuel up in the city. Once you leave the ring, stations may be spaced further apart.
- Night returns. High-speed roads at night demand an alert, sober driver. Anyone who has been drinking hands over the keys, or the group stays the night.
Plan the return as carefully as the outward trip
Sunday evening is when most groups head home, and the highways feeding back into the ring can slow down. Leaving a little earlier, or later after dinner, often makes the return far easier. If your group is staying overnight, a mid-morning checkout avoids both the heat and the rush.
Using the ring to compare prices
Because the ORR shortens drives so much, it widens your options. If farmhouses in the area nearest you are booked or more expensive for your date, the next spoke along the ring may add only a little driving. Weekend rates are usually higher than weekday rates in every area, and prices depend on each farmhouse's facilities, so compare the live prices on the farmhouse pages rather than assuming one belt is always cheaper.
Start with the ring, finish with the farmhouse
Use the ORR to narrow your search to two or three areas, then compare individual farmhouses on bedrooms, pool, lawns and house rules. Every farmhouse is booked as a whole for your group, and you can book online or send a free request and confirm on WhatsApp. If short drives are your top priority, read our guide to the closest farmhouse areas to Hyderabad city next.

Frequently asked questions
Are most farmhouses near Hyderabad close to the ORR?
Yes. Most well-known farmhouse areas, such as Moinabad, Shamshabad, Medchal, Ghatkesar and Patancheru, sit along highways just inside or outside the Outer Ring Road.
Which farmhouse area is best for a group spread across Hyderabad?
Pick an area on the ring between where most cars are starting, so nobody has to cross the city centre. Compare live listings in two or three areas before deciding.
Do I need FASTag to reach a farmhouse via the ORR?
The ORR is a tolled road, so make sure each car has a working FASTag before you leave.
Which areas are furthest beyond the ORR?
Chevella, Kadthal and Sangareddy are well beyond the ring and suit overnight stays better than short visits.
