Food at a Farmhouse: Cook, Caterer or Bring Your Own?
· 5 min read· by Farmhouses Hyderabad Team

Four ways to feed your group at a farmhouse, compared honestly: effort, flexibility, cost and what to confirm with the host before you decide.
When you book a farmhouse near Hyderabad, food is usually your responsibility, not the property's. Most groups choose one of four routes: cook in the farmhouse kitchen, hire a caterer, bring or order food in, or pay for a cook arranged through the property where that is offered. Which one is right depends on your group size, how much effort you want to put in, and what the specific farmhouse allows.
This guide compares all four honestly so you can decide before you book, not while twenty hungry people are looking at you at 2 pm.
First, check what the farmhouse allows
Food rules vary a lot between properties. Before you plan a menu, read the listing and confirm these points on WhatsApp:
- Is there a usable kitchen, and what's in it: stove, gas, fridge, utensils, plates?
- Is outside food allowed? Are outside caterers allowed?
- Does the property offer a cook or meal service, and at what charge?
- Is non-vegetarian food allowed? A few properties have restrictions.
- Is a barbecue grill available, and is charcoal included or extra?
- Are there rules about where you can eat, such as no food near the pool?
Our article on what's included in farmhouse rent covers the kitchen and other basics in more detail.

The four options side by side
| Option | Effort for you | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cook yourselves | High | Small groups, foodie friends, overnight stays | Someone ends up stuck in the kitchen |
| Hire a caterer | Low | Big groups, birthdays, office outings | Property permission, arrival timing, clean-up |
| Bring or order food | Low to medium | Day visits, mixed groups | Delivery reach in rural areas, keeping food safe |
| Property cook or meal service | Lowest | Families who want to relax completely | Availability, charges, fixed menu |
Option 1: Cook it yourselves
For many friend groups, cooking together is half the fun. A slow pot of chicken curry on the stove while others play cricket, or a barbecue that runs into the evening, becomes part of the memory.
Why it works
- Complete control over the menu, spice levels and dietary needs.
- Usually the cheapest option per head, since you only pay for groceries.
- Flexible timing: eat when you're hungry, not when the delivery arrives.
Why it can go wrong
- One or two people do all the work and miss the pool.
- Farmhouse kitchens vary; you may find fewer burners or vessels than you expected.
- Washing up for a big group at midnight is nobody's favourite activity.
Make it work: plan simple dishes, prep at home (marinate, chop, make masala), carry your own spices and rotate kitchen duty in shifts. Our farmhouse grocery checklist helps you pack without forgetting the salt.
Option 2: Hire a caterer
For groups of twenty or more, a caterer is usually the sanest choice. Many Hyderabad caterers deliver to the farmhouse belts around the city and some will serve on site.
- Confirm permission with the farmhouse first. Some properties allow outside caterers freely, some charge a fee, some only allow their own arrangement.
- Share the exact location pin and the caretaker's number with the caterer. Farm roads can be confusing.
- Fix arrival times with a buffer. Traffic on the ORR and highway approaches can delay deliveries.
- Agree who clears up and who takes the vessels back.

Option 3: Bring food or order in
For a day visit, bringing food from home or picking up from a favourite restaurant on the way is simple and reliable. Biryani handis, packed tiffin, sandwiches and fruit travel well.
- Delivery apps may not reach every farmhouse. Properties further out, such as in Chevella or Kadthal, may be outside delivery zones. Moinabad and Shamshabad are closer to the city, but check before relying on it.
- Pick up on the way. Collect food from a restaurant near your exit from the city rather than hoping it will be delivered.
- Keep it safe. Hyderabad heat spoils food quickly. Use insulated bags and a cooler box with ice, and refrigerate leftovers.
Option 4: The property's cook or meal service
Some farmhouses can arrange a cook, or the caretaker's family may prepare simple meals for an extra charge. When available, this is the most relaxing option: you hand over groceries or pay for a set menu and get on with your day.
- Ask exactly what is included: cooking only, or groceries too? Serving and washing up?
- Agree the menu and timings in advance, in writing on WhatsApp.
- Be clear about spice levels and vegetarian requirements.
- Tip fairly if the service is good. It is often hard work for one or two people.
Not every farmhouse offers this, and charges differ, so treat it as something to confirm, not assume.
Mixing and matching
The best plans often combine options. A common pattern for a night stay:
- Lunch: biryani picked up on the way in.
- Snacks: chips, fruit and cold drinks from home.
- Dinner: barbecue cooked by the group, or a caterer for big numbers.
- Breakfast: something quick in the farmhouse kitchen, such as upma, bread omelettes or poha.
This spreads the effort, keeps costs reasonable and gives you at least one meal that feels like an event.
Choose a farmhouse that suits your food plan
If you plan to cook, look for photos of the kitchen and a dining area. If you're bringing a caterer for a big gathering, a farmhouse with good road access and parking matters. Browse farmhouses for large groups or the full list of farmhouses near Hyderabad, and if you are coming from the IT corridor, the Moinabad farmhouses are close enough for easy pick-ups on the way. Check live availability, then confirm the kitchen and food rules on WhatsApp before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

Most farmhouses allow it, but rules vary by property and some restrict outside caterers. Check the listing and confirm on WhatsApp before you plan.
Do farmhouses have a kitchen we can use?
Many farmhouses have a kitchen, but equipment differs. Ask about the stove, gas, fridge and utensils so you know what to carry.
Can the farmhouse arrange a cook?
Some properties can arrange a cook or simple meals for an extra charge, while others can't. Confirm what is included and agree the menu in advance.
Will food delivery apps deliver to a farmhouse?
It depends on the location. Farmhouses closer to the city may be within delivery range, but further areas often aren't, so picking up food on the way is safer.
