How to Avoid Farmhouse Booking Scams Online
· 5 min read· by Farmhouses Hyderabad Team

Copied photos, a rushed advance and a number that stops answering. Learn the warning signs of a fake farmhouse listing and how to verify before you pay.
Farmhouse booking scams in Hyderabad usually follow the same script: attractive photos on social media, a price noticeably below everything else, pressure to pay an advance immediately, and then silence. The good news is that almost every scam fails a few simple checks. If you know what to look for, you can book a private farmhouse online with confidence.
This guide walks through how these scams work, the red flags, and a short verification routine you can run in ten minutes.
How a typical farmhouse scam works
Understanding the pattern makes it easier to spot:
- The bait. A post or ad shows a beautiful farmhouse with a big pool, often near a popular area like Moinabad or Shamshabad. The photos are frequently lifted from a genuine listing.
- The hook. When you call, the date you want is "just available", and the price is lower than similar farmhouses, especially for a weekend or festival.
- The pressure. Another group is supposedly about to book, so you must send an advance in the next few minutes to hold it.
- The disappearance. After payment, the number stops responding, or you arrive to find the real owner has never heard of you.
Variations include asking for the full amount upfront for a "special discount", or a second payment for a "refundable deposit" shortly before arrival.

Red flags to watch for
| Red flag | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Price far below similar farmhouses for the same date | Weekend and festival rates are usually higher than weekdays everywhere; an unusually cheap Saturday is suspicious |
| Refuses to share the exact location before payment | Genuine hosts share a location pin or village name readily |
| Will not do a video call or allow a visit | The person may not have access to the property at all |
| Payment only to a personal account or UPI ID with a different name | Makes it hard to trace or dispute later |
| Urgency: "pay in 10 minutes or it is gone" | Pressure is designed to stop you from checking |
| No written terms on deposit, rules or cancellation | A genuine host has clear terms because they deal with them weekly |
| Photos look like a different style or season, or appear on other listings under a different name | Copied photos are the most common scam ingredient |
A ten-minute verification routine
1. Reverse-check the photos
Use an image search on two or three of the listing photos. If the same pictures show up under a different farmhouse name, area or phone number, stop. Our guide on how to read farmhouse reviews and photos has more on spotting reused or misleading pictures.
2. Ask for the location, then check it
Ask for the location pin. Open it on a map and look at the satellite view. Does the plot show a pool where the photos show one? Is it a real farm plot or the middle of a highway? Does the area match what was claimed?
3. Do a live video call
Ask the host to walk you around the pool and the gate on a live video call. Genuine hosts and caretakers do this routinely. Recorded clips sent on chat are not the same thing.
4. Get the terms in writing
Before paying, ask for the total price, what is included, the guest limit, the security deposit and the cancellation policy in a message. If any of these are vague or keep changing, treat it as a warning.
5. Check how you are paying
Prefer a payment method that gives you a clear record and receipt. Be cautious about splitting payments across several personal accounts or paying a "deposit" through a link sent by an unknown number.
What a genuine booking flow looks like
On our farmhouse listings, each property has its own page with photos, amenities, house rules, live availability and the live price for your date. You can either book online, or send a booking request and get confirmed on WhatsApp at +91 91827 69746. A booking request is free and does not reserve the farmhouse until it is confirmed, so you are never asked to rush a payment just to "hold" a date.
Each farmhouse also shows its own cancellation terms on its page. You can read how this works on our cancellation policy page before you commit.
Be extra careful with social media offers
Many fake listings circulate through Instagram posts, WhatsApp forwards and Facebook groups, often around New Year's Eve, Holi or long weekends when demand peaks. A forwarded message with a phone number and a few photos is not a listing. Before you engage, look for a proper property page with amenities, rules and terms, and apply the same checks as above. If a friend recommends a farmhouse, ask whether they actually stayed there or just saw the post.
If you think you have been scammed
- Stop all further payments, even if you are promised a refund once you pay "one last fee".
- Save every screenshot: the ad, the chat, the payment confirmation, the phone number.
- Contact your bank or UPI app immediately to report the transaction.
- Report the incident to the national cybercrime helpline or portal, and warn others in the group or community where you saw the ad.
Smart habits for every booking
- Book a little earlier for festivals; the panic of a last-minute date is exactly what scammers count on. See why to book early for festivals.
- Compare prices across a few farmhouses in the same area and on the same day of the week.
- Keep all communication in writing, even if you also speak on the phone.
- If something feels off, it costs nothing to walk away and choose another property.
Book with clarity
A safe booking is one where you can see the property, the price and the terms before you pay. Browse farmhouses around Hyderabad with live availability, or contact us on WhatsApp if you want a listing double-checked before you confirm.

Frequently asked questions
How can I tell if a farmhouse listing is fake?
Check whether the photos appear elsewhere under another name, ask for a location pin and a live video call, and be wary of prices far below similar farmhouses for the same date.
Is it safe to pay an advance for a farmhouse booking?
It is normal to pay to confirm a booking, but only after you have verified the property and received the price, rules and cancellation terms in writing.
Does sending a booking request reserve the farmhouse?
No. On our site a booking request is free and does not reserve the farmhouse; it is confirmed separately on WhatsApp once the host accepts.
What should I do if I paid a fake farmhouse host?
Stop further payments, save all screenshots, inform your bank or UPI app right away and file a report with the national cybercrime helpline or portal.
