A Weekend Plan for Hyderabad's IT Crowd: Switch Off at a Farmhouse
· 5 min read· by Farmhouses Hyderabad Team

Sprint deadlines, late calls and a commute on the ORR. A simple farmhouse weekend plan built for Hyderabad's tech workers who want to actually switch off.
If you work in Hyderabad's IT corridor, the best weekend plan is often the simplest one: leave the laptop at home, drive 30 to 50 minutes west to a private farmhouse in Moinabad or Shankarpally, and spend two days doing things that have nothing to do with a screen. The short drive from Gachibowli, HITEC City or the Financial District means you get a real change of scene without losing half the weekend to travel.
Here is a weekend plan designed around how tech teams actually live: Friday-night fatigue, Saturday-morning laziness, and the Sunday-evening dread of Monday stand-ups.
Why a farmhouse works better than another mall weekend
A typical IT weekend in Hyderabad drifts between brunch, a mall, a movie and catching up on chores. None of it is bad, but very little of it feels like rest. You stay inside the same few kilometres you commute through all week.
A private farmhouse breaks that pattern. You get open ground, a pool that only your group uses, and no queue for anything. Because the whole property is yours, nobody minds if you nap on a hammock at 3 pm or play box cricket at 7 am.
It also suits the way many of us socialise now: a small friend group or a few couples from the same office, not a big crowd. A farmhouse for eight or twelve people is easy to find and easy to split.
Where to go from the IT corridor
- Moinabad is past the ORR on the Chevella road, roughly 30–45 minutes from Gachibowli, Kokapet and the Financial District. It has the largest choice of farmhouses, which helps when you decide on a Thursday. Browse farmhouses in Moinabad.
- Shankarpally lies west past Kokapet and Mokila, about 40–50 minutes from Gachibowli, and feels a little more rural. See farmhouses in Shankarpally.
- Chevella is further out on the Vikarabad road, worth it if you want a quieter overnight stay and maybe a morning drive towards the Ananthagiri hills.
Our page on farmhouses near Gachibowli pulls together the closest options, and the post on farmhouses near HITEC City and Madhapur covers routes from the Madhapur side.
The switch-off weekend plan
Friday night: decide, don't drive
Resist the urge to leave straight from office. Friday-evening traffic out of the corridor is heavy, and you will arrive tired and cranky. Instead, book the farmhouse, share the location pin in your group, order the groceries for pick-up and sleep properly.
Saturday: arrive early, do very little
- Leave around 9 am, before the city wakes up. You will be at the gate before 10.
- Do a slow walk around the property. Notice the trees, the sky, the absence of notifications.
- Pool time before the midday heat, then a long lunch.
- Afternoon: sleep, read a paper book, or play cards. This is the part most people skip, and it is the part that resets you.
- Evening: barbecue or a simple cook-out if the farmhouse allows it, followed by music at a polite volume and stargazing.
Sunday: move, eat, head back early
- A morning game of box cricket or badminton. Many farmhouses have a court; check our list of farmhouses with box cricket.
- Breakfast together, then one last swim.
- Check out by lunchtime and be home by mid-afternoon. A free Sunday evening is what stops the weekend from feeling like a sprint.
Rules that make the reset actually work
- Laptops stay home. If someone is on call, agree on one person and one corner, and keep it brief.
- Turn off Slack and Teams notifications for the weekend. Tell your lead on Friday; most will appreciate the honesty.
- No work talk after lunch on Saturday. It is surprisingly hard with colleagues. Make it a rule with a silly penalty, like doing the dishes.
- Plan one physical thing: a swim, a walk, a cricket match. Bodies that sit all week need it more than another series.
Make the drive part of the reset
The drive out is short, so use it well. Take the ORR rather than cutting through the city, and put on music nobody has heard at a team party. Stop for chai at a roadside stall once you are past the ring road; it marks the moment you have left the corridor behind.
Car-pool if your group is coming from different gated communities. Fewer cars means easier parking at the farmhouse and fewer people negotiating directions on the phone. Share the farmhouse location pin in the group the night before, and keep the caretaker's number handy for the last stretch, where village roads can be confusing.
On the way back, resist checking email in the car. Give yourself until you are home and showered. The weekend officially ends there, not at the farmhouse gate.
Weekday escapes and other options
Many IT teams work hybrid schedules or get comp-offs after a release. If you can take a Thursday or Monday, look at weekday dates. Weekday rates are usually lower than weekend rates, and the farmhouse belts are quieter. The live price on each farmhouse page shows the difference for your chosen dates.
If you are planning for the whole team rather than a friend group, our post on celebrating a promotion or release with your team covers the office-party angle.
A quick packing list for the tech crowd
- Swimwear, a towel and sunscreen
- A physical book or a deck of cards
- Comfortable shoes for a morning walk
- A power bank (for photos and maps, not for work)
- Mosquito repellent and any personal medicines
House rules on music, outside food, alcohol and guests vary by farmhouse, so read the listing and confirm anything unusual before you go.
Pick your weekend
Choose a date, open the farmhouses closest to your office, and check what is free. You can book online with live availability and price, or send a request and get confirmation on WhatsApp. The hardest part of switching off is deciding to do it; the drive itself is short.

Frequently asked questions
Which farmhouse area is closest to Gachibowli and HITEC City?
Moinabad is usually the quickest, about 30–45 minutes from Gachibowli and the Financial District, followed by Shankarpally at around 40–50 minutes.
Is a farmhouse good for a small group of IT colleagues?
Yes. Many farmhouses suit groups of eight to fifteen, and because you book the whole property, the space stays private for your group.
Are weekday farmhouse bookings cheaper in Hyderabad?
Weekday rates are usually lower than weekend rates. Check the live price on each farmhouse page for your exact dates.
Can we leave on Friday night after work?
You can if the farmhouse allows a late check-in, but Friday-evening traffic out of the IT corridor is heavy. Many groups find a Saturday-morning start more relaxing.
