Party Games for Adults at a Farmhouse
· 5 min read· by Farmhouses Hyderabad Team
Grown-ups need games too. Icebreakers, lawn challenges, after-dark mystery games and a points table that turns a farmhouse day into a friendly league.
The best party games for adults at a farmhouse are the ones that need little equipment, work for mixed groups and get louder as the day goes on: a quick icebreaker on arrival, team challenges on the lawn in the afternoon, and a mystery or guessing game after dark. Run them as one points league and even the people who "don't do games" end up competing.
This list is for grown-up groups such as college friends, colleagues, cousins and couples. For children's ideas, see our separate guides; here the focus is on what keeps adults laughing.
Icebreakers for the first hour
When two friend circles or two departments meet at a farmhouse, the first hour can be awkward. Short games fix that fast.
Two truths and a lie
Everyone shares three statements about themselves; the group guesses the lie. It takes no props and works over breakfast.
Who am I?
Write a famous name, from Tollywood stars to cricketers to cartoon characters, on a sticky note and put it on each person's forehead. They ask yes-or-no questions to work out who they are. Mixing Telugu cinema with Bollywood and international names keeps it fair for everyone.
Find someone who
Hand out a sheet of prompts such as "has been to Ananthagiri hills" or "can cook biryani" and give people fifteen minutes to find a name for each. Good for office outings where people only know each other's email signatures.
Lawn games with a competitive edge
Once the sun is lower, use the open space. Many farmhouses have large lawns, and some have a box cricket setup, which deserves its own tournament.
| Game | What you need | Why adults love it |
|---|---|---|
| Tug of war | A thick rope | Instant team spirit, and over in minutes |
| Three-legged race | Dupattas or cloth strips | Guaranteed falls and laughter |
| Blindfold obstacle course | Blindfold, cones or chairs | Tests trust between partners |
| Water balloon toss | Balloons and a bucket | Perfect for hot Hyderabad afternoons |
| Kho-kho or kabaddi, gently | Open lawn | Nostalgia for school days |
Keep physical games friendly and skip anything rough. Check the ground for stones before a race, and keep everyone drinking water in the heat.
Games for the shade or the sit-out
The afternoon heat calls for something you can play seated:
- Dumb charades, Telugu movie edition: act out film titles. Split teams so both language groups have a fair chance, or allow Hindi and English titles too.
- Pictionary on a whiteboard or chart paper: topics like "Hyderabad landmarks" or "things you find at a farmhouse".
- Group quiz: one person prepares questions about the group's shared history, such as college, the office or old trips. It is usually the most talked-about game of the day.
- Card games: Uno, rummy for points (not money) and Bluff fill the gaps between bigger games.

After-dark games
Night games are the highlight of a farmhouse night stay.
Mafia or Werewolf
A narrator secretly assigns roles; the "mafia" eliminate players at night and the village tries to identify them during the day. It works brilliantly with 8 to 20 people around a bonfire or on a lit lawn.
Torch-lit treasure hunt
Hide clues around the garden and sit-out, staying away from the pool, the kitchen and any area the caretaker has marked off. Teams use phone torches. Agree the boundaries before you start.
Murder mystery
Assign characters a few days before the party so people can dress up. Printable kits are easy to find online, and it suits a group that enjoys acting.
Truth or dare, with sensible limits
Set ground rules first: nothing involving the pool at night, nothing that embarrasses someone who has said no, and nothing that damages the property.
Run it as a league
A simple scoreboard turns separate games into one story. Split into three or four teams at breakfast, give each team a name, and keep a points table on chart paper.
- Award points for each game: 10 for a win, 5 for second, 2 for taking part.
- Add bonus points for team spirit, the best team chant or helping clear up.
- Announce the standings at lunch and again before dinner.
- Give the winning team a small trophy or first pick of the dessert.
This works especially well for corporate outings, where it adds structure without feeling like a workshop.
Keep the games and the drinks separate
If alcohol is part of your evening and the farmhouse allows it, keep it out of the games. Drinking games push people past their limits quickly, and the pool, uneven ground and late-night drives make that genuinely risky. Swap drink penalties for silly ones, such as singing a song or doing ten squats. Our guide to managing alcohol responsibly at a party has more on this.
Make room for the non-players
Not everyone wants to run a three-legged race. Give quieter guests real jobs: scorekeeper, quiz master, Mafia narrator, photographer or referee. They stay part of the fun without being pushed into the spotlight, and the games run more smoothly with a neutral official. Keep each game short, around 15 to 20 minutes, so people can drift in and out between rounds and nobody feels trapped.
Pack the game kit
- Rope, cones or plastic cups for markers, dupattas or cloth strips
- Sticky notes, markers, chart paper, a pack of cards and Uno
- Balloons, a whistle and a torch or two
- Small prizes for the league winners
